Exfoliating regularly is a good and recommended way of removing makeup residues, bacteria and dead skin cells. Exfoliating helps to keep the skin looking normal, healthy and also will keep those dreaded lines and wrinkles from forming. Women who use makeup on a regular basis should exfoliate their skin more regularly as some make does get trapped in the skin cells and soap and water do not remove them, but exfoliators do. One does not have to go out and get an expensive exfoliator as one can also make an exfoliator at home. Remember some exfoliators available in the market can be harsh and if one has sensitive skin using these exfoliators can be quite a horrible experience. So for people who have sensitive skin, it is best advised that they make sure that if they are buying an exfoliator from the market they do not use one that is harsh. In any case even if one does not have sensitive skin one should still look at the ingredients and make sure they do not contain any product that a person is sensitive too. Using organic items are preferred when making a home made exfoliators as they do not contain any harsh chemicals in them. Alpha hydroxy acid exfoliators have become very popular in recent years and there are still some unanswered questions about their safety which the FDA is pursuing by getting various studies conducted. Among the alpha hydroxy acid exfoliator the more popular exfoliators are the glycolic acid based exfoliators. Glycolic acid based exfoliators are made from sugar cane; citric acid derived from citrus fruits also fall in the same category. Any product that has a high content of glycolic acid can be dangerous as it is also used in industry to remove rust.
If one uses any product which contains AHA (alpha hydroxy acid exfoliators) one must make sure that they use ample sun protection when they go out in the sun. Facial exfoliators can also be made at home by using strawberries, avocado, lemons and lime. Mixing any one of these with oatmeal makes a good facial exfoliator. Just remember not to keep them on for too long as they tend to dry out the skin. But one will have to make sure that they are not allergic to any of the ingredients that they use in any facial exfoliators.
Most cosmetic companies that sell exfoliators would use an AHA product in them. Whereas no adverse effects have been found so far of AHA cosmetics the only precaution recommended is using ample sun protection. If using a sunscreen make sure it rates a PH 15. After using an exfoliator make sure to use a moisturizer as one does not want their skin to dry out with extensive use of exfoliators and one can start a new skin problem. Lactic acid exfoliators are also quite popular and are among the exfoliate ingredients that are used by a number of cosmetic skin care companies. Over use of any acid based exfoliator can cause excessive skin dryness and cause one to get over sensitive to the sun. Also if one uses an AHA based exfoliator make sure to keep it out of the reach of children and do not use it on them. The lower the acidity level there is an exfoliator the more rapidly is it going to get absorbed in the skin. Most cosmetic companies recommend using an exfoliator of less then 3 part acid concentrations if one wants to use it over an extended period of time and one can use one with higher concentration levels if one wants to use it for a short period of time and then discard it. Booths exfoliator is a popular exfoliator but should not be used more then once a week and should not be left on for more then 3 minutes max.
